In a setting where magnificent views over the Douro highlight the relationship between wine and the city, locations and monuments that tell the city’s story can be viewed from the balconies of VINTAGE 18.
Through the eyes of the historian Manuel de Sousa the web series “The Charm of History” follows the history of Porto and features views of the region that can be enjoyed from VINTAGE 18. Manuel de Sousa is the author of the web series “Lost Porto”, which earned him the Municipal Medal of Merit from the City Hall of Porto.
In this chapter he talks about the genesis of the cities of Vila Nova de Gaia and Porto, and about the Douro River, the Romans and the origin of the name Portugal.
In telling this story, we cross paths with historic monuments visible from the apartments of Vintage 18, such as the Serra do Pilar, the Porto Cathedral and the Casa do Infante
Port wine plays a major historic role in the wealth and prosperity of the region.
In this chapter we learn about the trajectory of a sector whose presence is evident in the views from Vintage 18 windows.
Moving along the Douro River, past the Gaia pier and the ‘Barcos Rabelos’, traditional wooden cargo boats used for centuries on the Douro, we gain an awareness of how the role of the Ferreira wine cellars have left their mark on this region.
